How involved are your parents in off campus housing decisions?

My parents are not usually too involved with my apartment decisions because they are so far away. However, it is best to reassure them with a few things.  1)  Safety.  2) Price.  3) Location from your campus.  4) Who is living with you. If you can be 100% confident in those things, you should be good!  Also make sure you know all about the utilities and what not.

My parents are not normally involved but when they are they want me to be in the safest neighborhoods as possible.  They also think it is important if I am closer to campus.  My parents want me to research the landlords and see what I can find out about them.  That is very important because there are horror stories about these landlords who rent to students.

It depends on you.  My parents don’t pay for my housing or schooling but they do worry about where I’m living and who I live with.  On the other hand I have several friends whose parents pay for everything so they basically do whatever their parents tell them to do.  If you pay for it yourself, you parents should be guiding and helpful but should not make your plans for you.
