If you’ve ever explored the land of plant magic, you likely began with diffusing oils because you enjoyed the smell. While that’s a lovely practice, essential oils have loads of physical healing and energetic properties that can support you beyond their pleasant aromas.
What are essential oils exactly?
Essential oils are highly concentrated, naturally occurring oils distilled from plants (bark, flower, roots and seeds).

How do you use essential oils?
There are three main ways to use essential oils.
#1: Aromatically
This is the most common way to use oils and involves inhaling them. You can use a diffuser to impact the mood and vibe of your home or workspace, or you can place a drop of oil into your palms and inhale straight from your hands.
Fun Fact: When you inhale the oils, it sends signals to the limbic system in your brain, which is in charge of your emotions. Based on the properties of the oil, your mood and emotions can shift once this communication occurs.
#2: Topically
If you are using pure oils that can be applied topically, you may choose to apply to your wrists, forearms, temples, back of neck, belly or soles of your feet.
Applying topically is particularly effective when using oils for specific ailments. If you have a headache, you may choose to massage peppermint oil into your temples or the back of your neck. If you have a bellyache, you may rub ginger oil over your abdomen.
Fun Fact: The soles of feet have some of the largest pores on your body, which means the healing properties of the essential oils are absorbed and felt more quickly when applied here.
#3: Internally
If you are using pure oils that can be taken internally, you may choose to ingest certain oils for various health benefits. You may add a couple of drops of lemon oil to your water or create your own capsules filled with oil to include less tasty (but super healing) oils like oregano.
