There are lots of reasons why a mini fridge can be a huge help when it comes to storage. Maybe you always find yourself fighting for room in your full-size fridge. Or perhaps you need something that will fit into a small space like a dorm room or studio apartment.

These handy little appliances are also a great idea for making sure you always have chilled drinks on hand for your party guests or stowing your lunch in your office cubicle (not to mention keeping it out of the company fridge where food is known to go MIA).

These days many people are even using them to store skin care products or medications. In other words, these small appliances can have a mighty big impact on your life.

Of course, with the hundreds of options out there, it’s not always easy to wade through the clutter, which is why we’ve gathered together our favorite mini fridges to suit your needs.

But before we dive into our list, let’s go over some things you should consider before you decide to purchase one.

Things to Consider When Buying a Mini Fridge

Before making your mini fridge purchase, here are some things to consider.

Size

The first and most obvious thing to consider is where you’ll be using your mini fridge. The biggest mini fridges usually stand about 33 inches high, and some even come with a separate door for the freezer compartment. They’re very similar to standard refrigerators but on a smaller scale.

Mid-size mini fridges usually measure about 24 to 28 inches in height and are often used under your kitchen counter.

Compact mini fridges are usually cube-shaped and stand somewhere between 17 to 19 inches high. These small units work well in extra tight spaces like an office cubicle.

Finally, portable freestanding mini fridges are usually around 10 or 11 inches high and often come with a carrying handle. These units work well on countertops and are often used for beauty products or medications. And of course, they also travel well.

Before you decide to buy, make sure you measure the space you’ll be using your mini fridge in, including width, depth and height.

Do You Need a Freezer Compartment?

Some mini fridges come with a single door, while others actually have a separate door for the freezer compartment. These models are not only more energy-efficient but allow you to store a small amount of frozen food for longer periods.

While many single-door models do come with a freezer section, the space is usually limited, and the temperature is not usually low enough for storing frozen foods for very long.

In other words, if you want a place to stash ice cream or a few frozen dinners, you may want to choose a 2-door model.

Extra Features

While some mini fridges are bare bones, others come with added features. Things you may want to consider are interior lights and models with reversible door hinges and legs that can adjust to your space. You’ll also want to keep an eye out for adjustable thermostats.

Another nice feature is adjustable shelves as opposed to wire racks. These make your refrigerator easier to clean and prevent food from falling through the cracks. Some fridges even come with a pull-out crisper door which is great for storing fruits and veggies.

Before you buy, think about what features might be most important to you.

With those things in mind, let’s go over our favorite mini fridges in more detail.

Mini Fridges with a Separate Freezer Door

Want to store your ice cream bars or some frozen dinners? These models have a separate top freezer section that lets you store frozen goods for longer periods of time and are more energy-efficient.

Arctic King ATMPO32AEB 2-Door

Arctic King ATMPO32AEB 2-Door

Dimensions: 18.5 x 19.4 x 33 inches

Capacity: 3.2 cubic feet

What We Like About It

While the Arctic King refrigerator is a great fit for small spaces, it can still hold full-size drinks—making it perfect for a college dorm or home office. We also like that it has a crisper drawer, two glass shelves and an interior light. A reversible door hinge for right or left opening is another great convenience.

And, of course, the separate door for the freezer makes it more energy-efficient and means that frozen goods will actually stay frozen. Overall, it’s kind of like a big, little refrigerator.

Things to Keep in Mind

Like many refrigerators on this list, this fridge has to be defrosted manually.

We love the retro design of this compact fridge that’s available in black, blue, green, red or white, depending on your color preference. And despite its old school looks, it’s packed with modern conveniences, including removable glass shelves, a large vegetable crisper and an LED interior light.

The temperature is adjustable with the turn of a knob, and it also runs quietly. But perhaps the best part is that this fridge uses a high-efficiency, low-energy compressor, which means it keeps your food cool with less energy.

It’s easy to see why this best seller on Amazon has over 1,300 reviews and a 4.5 average rating.

Things to Keep in Mind

The doors are not reversible.

Capacity: 4.4 cubic Feet

What We Like About It

Though this is one of the taller models in our single-door section, the Midea compact fridge has a whopping 4.4 cubic feet of capacity, which is a lot of space for a mini fridge. This would be a great beverage refrigerator, as it has three shelves and room for cans, tall bottles and condiments in the door.

The door is also reversible, and the fridge has adjustable legs.

Things to Keep in Mind

The shelves on this mini fridge are made of wire which isn’t as convenient as glass. And while there is a “freezer” compartment, it’s meant for items that need extra chilling and can’t be used to make ice or store frozen food.

There’s room for a two-liter bottle and four cans in the inner door, and the main compartment comes with one rack for storing food and snacks.

Things to Keep in Mind

The temperature is not adjustable.

Our Favorite Mini Fridge for Drinks

If you’re looking to keep beer or other drinks cold, this fridge will ensure that your favorite beverage stays cool without taking up space in your standard refrigerator.

Comfee Beverage Cooler

Comfee Beverage Cooler

Dimensions: 17.32 x 18.89 x 33.15

Capacity: 3.2 cubic feet

What We Like About It

If you’re looking for a mini fridge for drinks only, this 115-can capacity unit from Comfee is a solid choice for your bar, office, garage or man cave. The temperature is adjustable between 33.8F to 50F to maintain your beverages at your preferred temperature.

Other convenient features include internal LED lights, three removable glass shelves, a reversible door hinge and adjustable legs. We also like that the glass door is made with three-panel glass to prevent cold air leaks and that it has UV protection as well.

Things to Keep in Mind

Like many drink refrigerators, it’s important not to put drinks too close to the back wall as they can freeze and prevent air from circulating through the rest of the refrigerator.
