What to Look for in a Summer Maternity Dress

Summer will undoubtedly feel hotter when you’re pregnant. So when shopping for dresses, look for lightweight fabrics to keep you as cool as can be.

Since there’s no way to know how big your bump will get or how fast it will grow, it’s also a good idea to look for stretchy fabrics that can expand as your body changes.

If you’re planning to give birth during the summer or early fall, look for nursing-friendly features, such as layered bodices or V-necks. That way, you can get more longevity out of your summer dresses, even once the baby is born.

Depending on your pre-pregnancy body type and which trimester you’re in, you might not need to limit your shopping to maternity brands and stores. For example, if you have a petite frame or don’t have much of a bump, you might want to transition to wearing babydoll dresses or t-shirt dresses in one or two regular sizes bigger than you normally wear.

How Do Maternity Sizes Work?

For the most part, you’ll buy the same size maternity clothing as you would regular clothing.

For example, if you usually wear a size medium, you’ll buy a maternity medium. If you typically wear a size 10, you’ll buy a maternity size 10.

Every woman’s body is different and grows at a different rate during pregnancy, so there may be instances where you’ll need to buy a size smaller or larger than what you’re used to. You may also need to buy a size or two larger as you near the end of your pregnancy or if you feel your bump growing at a faster rate.

Wrong!

You can (and probably will) wear your maternity clothes after you give birth.

Every woman’s body is different and recovers from pregnancy at a different rate. But if you’re like most women, you’ll probably continue to wear your maternity dresses for at least a few weeks after you’ve delivered your precious little bundle of joy.

So go ahead, mama. Treat yo’self & that bump!
