Whether you’re married, living with your significant other, or single as could be, date nights are important!
Having dinner at the newest restaurant, going to a show, hitting the bar for a few drinks … unfortunately, all of our favorite date night plans are on hold for a while.
But just because social distancing is the new norm (at least for now), that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a date night.
There are tons of fun things you and your significant other can do without ever having to leave the house. Here are 7 fun date nights you can plan at home while you’re social distancing from the rest of the world.
Get Competitive
Competition is healthy, so grab your controllers, pop in a video game, and battle it out for bragging rights!
If you want to make it a fair competition, play a game that neither of you has ever played before or one that you’re both equally skilled at. Or, get online and order a few throwback games or a vintage system that you haven’t played since you were a kid.
Not in the mood for a heated video game battle? Board games and card games are just as fun!
Dress Up For Dinner
Just because you’re stuck inside doesn’t mean you can’t look your best. Ditch the sweats and comfy pants, put on some cute clothes and cook and eat a meal together. You can make it as romantic as your favorite restaurant just by lighting a few candles, serving on your good dishes and using your best wine glasses.
If neither of you knows how to cook, now is a great time to learn. If you don’t think you can handle it, just do take out or delivery instead.

Get in a Workout
If you’re both into fitness, there are tons of free workouts you can do online or on-demand on your TV. It’s even more fun if you try a workout that neither of you has ever done before, such as yoga, kickboxing or CrossFit.
Have a Picnic
Date nights don’t have to happen at night. It can be just as much fun to have a morning date or an afternoon date.
While lockdowns and shelter in place orders might prevent you from heading to your favorite date spots, they certainly don’t prohibit you from having fun!
One thing you can do when you’re stuck at home is to throw a picnic in your living room or bedroom. Brunch in bed is always a good thing (though at least one of you will need to get up and cook it first).
Prefer to create an indoor picnic vibe?
Move your coffee table aside, spread out a blanket, or toss some throw pillows on your living room floor. Kick-off your shoes, relax and eat some lunch in a way that you normally would never do in your own house.
Binge Watch Everything
Have you never seen Lost or Mad Men or Breaking Bad? Now is the perfect time to binge-watch those shows that you’ve been meaning to see for years but never had the time to actually sit down and watch.
Get cozy on the couch and watch every episode of a show you’ve never seen. Or, create your own movie marathon by watching back-to-back horror movies, rom coms or fantasy films.
Between Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, pay-per-view and the on-demand services of your local cable company, there is certainly no shortage of shows and movies to watch.
The theaters might be closed, but who cares? You can still pop some popcorn and watch something that’s new to you.
Plus, there’s a good chance your couch is a lot more comfortable than sitting in a theater with strangers beside you, behind you and in front of you.
Take a Virtual Tour
A lot of museums have online digital catalogs of their permanent artworks and visiting exhibits.
So even though an actual museum tour is out of the question right now, you can still enjoy a distanced view online. Open up your laptop or tablet, grab your significant other and check out some online art catalogs together.
Not in the mood for art and culture? That’s okay. Go on Google Earth, click the street view option, and take a walking tour of any city or town that you’ve always wanted to explore.
While you’re enjoying your online walking tour you might even want to map out certain places to visit in person when the pandemic is over.
Throw Your Own Mini-Concert
Do you or your significant other know how to sing or play an instrument? If so, now is the perfect time to band together as a duet and play music together at home.
Whether you play songs you know or have the talent and ability to write your own tunes, this is a great way to have fun. With concert halls, clubs, theaters and venues closed, this may be the only way to have a live music experience for a while.
And hey, if you have a balcony, take your act outside and entertain the neighbors. You just might become an overnight sensation.
Is Social Distancing Affecting Your Date Nights?
We live in a society based on social interaction, so the need for social distancing is affecting a lot of people in a negative way. There’s absolutely nothing funny about it, but the trick to getting through it is to find a way to have fun in spite of it.
Social distancing doesn’t have to ruin your social life. In fact, it’s easier now, more than ever, to connect with the people closest to you in a brand new way.
If you live with your partner, there are plenty of fun things to do together without ever leaving the house. But if you live apart, you’ll need to turn to video chat as a way to stay connected.
With an online video chat, you can still enjoy all of the things on this list together, even if there are miles of distance between you.
