We always hear people say that they’re living their best life. But are they really?
It’s easy to make your Instagram page look like you’re living it up and enjoying every moment that comes your way. But the fact is that a lot of people are tired of life.
Maybe it’s because you work too much, have no free time and have no work-life balance. Maybe it’s because you’re having relationship troubles. Or maybe it’s because you’re simply not satisfied with where you are at this stage of your life.
There are lots of reasons why people feel sad, dissatisfied and unhappy about life in general.
But don’t give up just yet …
There are things you can do to change your circumstances.
Ready to learn how? Here’s what to do if you’re tired of life.
Make a List of What’s Good and Bad in Your Life
If you want to take back control of your life, start by making a good old-fashioned pros and cons list. Write down all of the things that are good in your life. Then write down all the things that are making you miserable.
Take a look at what’s making you unhappy. Do you have the power to change them?
For example, if you hate your job, it’s time to start looking for a new one. If you want to find a partner or be in a relationship, it’s time to get out there and start meeting people.
The way to make significant changes is to make a plan. With a bit of dedication, you can change your life, and you can do so by addressing one negative element at a time.
Know That You Have Choices
Life is all about making choices, and we make them every single day.
From what we eat to how we spend our free time, every decision is a choice. And every choice puts us on a path to reach a certain result.
Are you unhappy because you want to lose weight? You can start changing that immediately just by making better food choices!
If you’re overwhelmed with work or family responsibilities, you might need to cut back on your work hours or hire someone to help you out around the house.
How you live your life is up to you. Once you identify the things that need fixing, start making choices that will put you on the path to your goal.
Stop Consuming Yourself With Sadness and Disappointment
There’s no need to beat yourself up over circumstances that you can change. Feeling sad and being disappointed in yourself will only make the situation worse. Instead, it’s time to start making the changes. Just knowing that you’re doing something about it can put you in a better frame of mind!
Having a hard time pinpointing exactly what it is that’s making you unhappy?
If you can’t easily identify what’s making you sad, you may have a more serious issue on your hands.
Approximately 16.2 million adults in the U.S. suffer from major depressive disorder.
Persistent depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and seasonal depression affect another 9% of Americans. These are serious conditions that require treatment by a professional.
Being dissatisfied with your life and battling depression are two very different things.
If you think you’re suffering from depression, see a professional. In the meantime, let a trusted friend or a loved one know how you’re feeling. It’s not a battle you should handle alone.
Prioritize Your To-Do List
Once you identify the items you want to change, it’s time to prioritize them.
Put them in order from easiest to hardest. Start with the smallest item or one that seems to be the easiest to tackle. Work at changing that one issue, and then move onto the next item on your list.
Completing tasks, regardless of how small they may be, can be a great motivation to continue completing more.
Make a Schedule (and Stick to it), making changes requires making a plan. And a successful plan starts with creating a schedule. Block out time throughout the day to focus on that plan.
If your plan is to lose weight, you can schedule time for the gym. If it involves finding a new job, spend one hour each night searching for jobs and submitting your resume online. If you’re unhappy because you have no work-life balance, schedule time to do things that relax you, such as doing yoga, practicing meditation or hanging out with friends.
Just remember this: having a schedule means nothing if you don’t stick to it.
If it seems like life it’s getting away from you, you must make yourself a priority. And that starts with scheduling the time to do so.
No one can change your life but you. Make a promise to yourself that you’re going to do things differently and start doing them differently now. You just might be surprised at how easy it is to change certain aspects of your life.
And remember, there’s no need to change everything all at once. Just tackle one issue at a time!
How Can I Live My Best Life?
It is possible to live your best life – but you have to figure out what that looks like first.
Create a pros and cons list of everything that’s good and bad in your world. Start making choices to change the bad things, one at a time. You can make them positive forces in your life instead of negative ones!
Don’t beat yourself up over the choices you’ve made that have led you to this point. Instead, think like an optimist and focus on how you’re going to make your life better. There is no reason to worry about what happened in the past, you must focus on the present moment.
And if you’re tired of life beyond the point of disappointment and dissatisfaction, it’s time to see a professional. Ask your primary care physician to recommend a mental health professional and make an appointment now.
Your life can get better – and the faster you get started, the sooner it will improve.
